Antique Tale & Time Saving Travel Tips

There is a popular tale I would like to share.  Once, there was an old man who decided to retire from his business and wanted his son to inherit the business.  He gave his son an old gold watch which had not been polished and sent him to the market to ask for the selling price.

The people in the market wanted to buy it for $20.  He went back and reported to his father. Then the father sent him to the antique shop. The antique shop keeper wanted to buy it for $200.  He went back and reported to his father.  Then his father sent him to a museum and when the man at the museum saw the old gold watch, he polished it and was amazed at it and said he would buy it for $2000.

The young man went back to his father to report.  His father told him that the moral of the story is to know your worth.  You are worth what you think you are worth so you make the best out of this life with all the skills you have.  Do not sell yourself too small. Each of us has great value within us.

The following are time and money saving travel tips:-

  • Pack for everyday.  It will save you time during the trip every morning looking for clothes, what to wear and what to match.
  • Decide to have a list of what you want to do each day, have an itinerary to save on time.
  • Look at the best deals on offer to save money.
  • Opt for all inclusive hotels to save on food expenses.
  • Save as much as you can but also make sure that you have fun during travel.

Deadheading flowers & Cut off toxic links

Deadheading flowers by Pats Oases

Deadheading is a process of plucking dead flowers from plants in order to maintain a plant’s appearance and for a better blossom. Deadheading flowers involves pinching or cutting off the flower stem below the dead flowers or shearing. Eventually , you will get a second wave of beautiful blossoms to enjoy!

In life sometimes we have to cut off toxic links including toxic relationships, a toxic work environment, toxic habits that lead to addictions among other issues. Once we are able to break free from the toxic links, we are able to grow better just as the deadheaded flowers bloom and blossom.

Campus Days

Campus days blog

As I sip my warm cocoa today, I think of campus days. I learnt so much during campus and I’d like to share some few tips when travelling as a student.

  • When travelling as a student or trainee, you may have been given a scholarship or training fee fully paid but you need to budget well for your upkeep to last the duration of your course.
  • It’s usually advisable to walk in a group e.g. with campus mates when going to and from class especially if you are in a foreign place, for safety reasons.
  • Create a good network who you can work with and see each other through the ups and downs of campus life.

Make the best of your campus days!

Snow Dream

Some dreams we remember, some we don’t. There’s this one dream I remember I had during a snow day. I dreamt that Santa came to our door and filled it up with snow.

Then I wondered, is Santa blocking the door? Blocking our blessings? I even thought of waking up, not to see what happens next but on second thought, I decided to stay on. As the dream continued, Santa made a stair with the snow on the door, climbed up and entered through the top of the door and dropped a gift. Then he went down the stair and cleared the snow with a magic wand.

This dream made me think of the days when things happen in our lives and we think that they will block our dreams. We have not seen the whole picture like in that dream the snow was not blocking the door but a staircase enabling blessings to enter our home. It was a blessing in disguise!

Some tips when driving in the snow…

  • Keep a safe distance between your car and the car infront of you.
  • Drive at a steady speed and avoid emergency brakes.
  • Avoid highways if you can. Highways have an advantage and disadvantage. The advantage is that they are well serviced but the disadvantage is that there are too many cars, if they slide in the snow they might collide and affect many cars.

Stay safe!

The Donkey Story & Decision Making Tips

There was a man who travelled to the market with his son to sell his donkey. On his way, someone laughed at him and told him, “hey, this donkey should carry you to the market!” So he hopped on the donkey. As he walked further, a lady told him that he should let his son ride on the donkey too. So the man and his son rode on the donkey. As they continued with their journey, they met someone who said, “poor donkey! you should carry the donkey. So the man and his son hopped out and carried the donkey. When they reached the market, people in the market were wondering, what kind of people are these that a carrying a strong and healthy donkey to the market for sale!

That is a good lesson for everyone. We should make good decisions once and for all and stick to the decisions we make. If we listen to everyone’s different suggestions, we will get lost.

Below are some decision making tips to consider when travelling:-

  • Consider the purpose of the trip – is it business or leisure? Plan what to carry according to the nature of the trip.
  • Check the weather of the location you are travelling and carry appropriate clothing.
  • Budget for the trip and include contingencies so that you are not caught off-guard in case of emergencies.
  • Consider the culture of the people and also consider safety especially during the pandemic period.

Finally have a checklist of things to do and what to carry. Make sound decisions when travelling.
